The Basic Policies

On April 7, 2020, a State of Emergency was declared in view of the risk that nationwide and rapid spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) could have an enormous impact on people's lives and the national economy. The government is undertaking a set of measures to contain COVID-19, based on the Basic Policies for Prevention and Control of the Novel Coronavirus, which was decided and have been revised at the Novel Coronavirus Response Headquarters.
On May 25, 2020, the declaration of a state of emergency has been lifted, as it is deemed that the emergency situation measures are no longer necessary.

It is effective in five prefectures (Hokkaido, Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo and Kanagawa) until May 31. When it is deemed that the emergency situation measures are no longer necessary, the state of emergency shall be lifted.
